Another Vauxhall Gardens-linked album of classical music is on the way from director Bridget Cunningham’s London Early Opera. Fans can get a taste of the album-to-be on Friday 23 June 2023 at the LEO’s ‘Hogarth’s Garden’ concert at St Nicholas Church in Chiswick. The evening brings together LEO’s new singers with narrator and Hogarth fan Lars Tharp, a star of BBC-TV’s Antiques Roadshow. Hogarth was buried at St Nicholas’ in 1764 and the Hogarth house is nearby. He was a friend of Jonathan Tyers and designed the Vauxhall Gardens Rotunda, its ‘if wet’ indoors hall of mirrors.
Music is by George Frideric Handel reflecting Hogarth’s vision for the Foundling Hospital, Vauxhall Gardens and Handel’s art collection will be performed by London Early Opera’s new choir, with Charles McDougall.
